On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, nearly 200 Northstar officials and supporters gathered at the site of the future Fridley station for the official groundbreaking. The groundbreaking ceremony was followed by an Open House at the Fridley City Hall.
Northstar construction crews mobilized last week and began work on the site. Crews accessed the tunnel that was installed underneath the BNSF tracks in May 2008, so work could begin on the station platform. Work includes:
- Preliminary earthwork
- Sheet piling
Sheet piling work is very loud, but is necessary to excavate the tunnel and begin work on the station. Sheet piling along track Main 2 will occur during 4 hour windows that could occur at any time, day or night. Other sheet piling could occur in longer timeframes, but that work is anticipated to occur only during the day. The schedule will be determined by BNSF. We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and assure you that crews will work as quickly as possible, while maintaining a safe work environment and creating a quality product.
