New Northstar Web Site; Downtown Road Closures

This week, the Northstar Project launched a re-designed web site that includes new and expanded content and interactive features to help commuters get ready to ride the line when Northstar service begins late next year. Visitors to the site can easily access information about purchasing tickets, weekday and weekend schedules and tips for ensuring a safe commute. Details about each station along the Northstar Corridor, including animation, area maps and updated construction photos, are also accessible. The updated web site will give Minnesotans a clear picture of what to expect from the state’s first commuter rail.

Northstar Commuter Rail Project Breaks Ground for Elk River Station

Public officials and supporters of Northstar Commuter Rail broke ground today for the Elk River station, which will be located off of Highway 10 and 171st Avenue at the current Northstar Commuter Coach Park & Ride site.

The groundbreaking ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate the progress of the state’s first commuter rail line, which is expected to begin service in November 2009, said Arne Engstrom, member of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) and a Sherburne County commissioner.

Northstar Commuter Rail Project Launches New Web Site To Prepare Riders For 2009 Service

The Northstar Commuter Rail Project has launched a new web site at its current web address: http://www.mn-getonboard.com/. The re-designed site includes new graphics and animations, content and interactive features to help commuters plan their trips and watch the progress of Northstar construction in anticipation of the late 2009 launch of the rail line.

Elk River Station Groundbreaking Scheduled and 5th Street Bridge Pedestrian Access to Open

On Friday, August 22, at 10:30am, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held to celebrate the start of construction at the Elk River Commuter Rail station. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Construction activities continue to progress at the commuter rail stations in Big Lake, Anoka, Coon Rapids and Minneapolis, the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Big Lake and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) connection in Minneapolis. The schedule provided in this update is tentative, weather dependent and subject to change.

Work Progresses on Pedestrian Overpass at Coon Rapids-Riverdale Station

This week, progress was made on the pedestrian overpass at the Coon Rapids-Riverdale station as crews began erecting the structural steel. Work will continue on the overpass during the coming weeks. Construction activities also progress at the commuter rail stations in Big Lake, Anoka and Minneapolis, the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Big Lake and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) connection in Minneapolis. Sidewalk Removal on 5th Street Begins Next Week

Roadway and sidewalk removals on 5th Street North in downtown Minneapolis are scheduled to begin next week. Details of the work are included below. Construction activities progress at the commuter rail stations in Big Lake, Anoka, Coon Rapids and Minneapolis. Crews also continue work on the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) in Big Lake and the Light Rail Transit (LRT)connection in Minneapolis.
