On Monday, June 2, the Northstar Commuter Rail Project will begin storm sewer utility work on 4th Avenue North in Anoka. This work involves jacking under the BNSF Railway train tracks that cross 4th Avenue and installing large storm sewer pipes beneath the tracks.
This work, and its associated traffic closures, is expected to last at least two weeks. During that time, anticipated traffic impacts are as follows:
- 4th Avenue will be closed between Pierce Street and Grant Street. Northbound traffic on 4th Avenue will be forced to turn left or right on Pierce Street.
- Drivers headed northbound on 4th Avenue toward the Anoka-Metro Regional Treatment Center will be detoured east on Pierce Street, north on 7th Avenue and west on Grant Street.
- Johnson Street will be closed to through traffic between 4th Avenue and County Road 7.
- Pedestrian access on 4th Avenue will be maintained alongside the construction zone. Pedestrians should be mindful of all posted signs and safety barriers.
If you have any questions or concerns throughout this phase of construction, please contact Jonathan Blake at the Northstar Project Office at 651-366-5840 or jonathan.blake@mnrail.org.
